FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Imagine for a moment the first gem of information you discovered about North Captiva Island... an island in the Gulf of Mexico with no bridges, just golf carts, sand and swimming pools... Cool!

Well,

How do we get there?
Making a reservation on the Getting There section of our website would be the first step. If you would prefer to make your reservation personally, please contact Island Girl Charters at (239)633-8142. The convenient ferry schedule runs from Bokeelia to North Captiva daily every two hours; from 7am to 5pm.

How do we get to the house?
When your vessel arrives at the North Captiva Island Club Reception Docks, our Guest services staff is awaiting your arrival and will be there to greet you. They will help you transport your groceries and luggage to the House and acquaint you with the golf cart that is yours to use during your stay.

Is there a grocery store on the island?
Our Island Marketplace is well equipped for "I forgot" type items and fully stocked with beer, wine, soda, and other essentials.

What do you do if you have a medical emergency?
In case of an emergency just call 911. We are fortunate to have on the island a fully prepared fire department, staffed with full-time and volunteer members. Trained in EMT services and ready to answer your call for help. Transport off-island in dire emergencies is provided by helicopter airlift.

How much does the ferry cost, isn't that included?
The ferry cost is not included in the rental and is normally $35 per person round trip. Island Girl Charters publishes a rate schedule for larger groups and does offer a bit of a price break for groups of 4 or more. Cash is best for payment of the ferry tickets, but credit cards are also accepted.

What time is check in, what time is check out?
Check in is at 4PM and Check out is at 10AM. Early check ins are sometimes allowed if the house is ready for your arrival. You can arrive early to the island and enjoy the amenities. Late check out are not possible, especially in season. And similarly, you can stay and play on North Captiva for the rest of the day even after check out.

Do all of the houses have laundry facilities?
Yes, every house offered by North Captiva Island Club Resort has full laundry facilities at the house. Laundry soap is provided by housekeeping.

Are the bugs really bad during that time of year?
Yup! Just kidding... don't say that. We all know the island. Everyone has had an encounter or two with an angry mob of mosquitos. Be up-front; tell them to bring bug spray if they are sensitive to bug bites. And, tell them what times of year the bugs are less troublesome.

Is it really hot there in the summer?
Let them make their own call, some people cannot handle humidity and some like it Hot, Hot, Hot! Regardless, let your customer know that the homes are air conditioned, well insulated, and the pools are chilled in the Summer months to keep them cool. When they weigh the warm weather with the facts that the beaches are pristine, the Gulf waters are like bathwater, and the island always feels like it is their very own secluded paradise; they'll be on their way.

What's the weather like in December?
Direct them to the average temperatures and give them some personal knowledge of seasonal climes. www.weather.com

Your first Lead...How to Handle an Inquiry

Response Time
A key to your success in a very competitive vacation rentals market is timing. The quicker your response time is, the more likely the vacationer is to book your house or have you refer her to one on the island. Email inquiries that sit in you mailbox for days and days are wasted dollars (your dollars). If you spend all of that money on the ad, don't you want to make it back? Or even make more back? If you do not reach inquiring beach goers right away they'll pack their bags and go visit Mickey Mouse or Marco Island.

Call Back
Returning a call someone has made to you will almost always bring you a booking. If they call you, they need your help... help them. Not everyone is internet savvy, nor do we all feel comfortable with using credit cards on-line.

Email Back
Returning a response to your inquiries is definitely key to your success. Just try it. Opening a conversation with your future guests is so easy, don't forget they called you.

Saving the Leads
We cannot impress upon you how important it is to save your leads. North Captiva Vacations for many reasons are something that many people long for. If they can't afford it, can't get the time off they need for it, or your house is booked for it; there is always next mont, week, or year. Keeping in touch with your leads will generate more future bookings and make it easier to fill in the gaps between your regular bookings. Do specials, send them notes, send them e-postcards. The North Captiva vaction lifestyle will draw them in.
